Persönliche Bindungen - emotionale Beständigkeit in Geweben
Personal Ties - Emotional permanence in woven fabrics
Design with the aim of emotional durability can contribute to sustainability in the form of the longevity of a product. Using the example of three people, the already existing emotional connections to objects, materials, colors, places and their own bodies were worked out through guided interviews. Based on these emotionally consistent sources of inspiration, a mood board was created for each person that reflects these preferences. Taking this as a basis, a graphic design was created for each person from a mix of concrete transfers and metaphorical illustrations as a mirror of the emotional connections. Concrete elements with a high recognition value were used to strengthen the bond with the future user. The designs were realized in Jacquard fabric, a technique that enables a detailed reproduction of the multi-layered designs and offers a further narrative level through the design of the binding structures. The resulting object symbolizes the emotional ties of the person and becomes a long-lasting, emotionally durable product itself through this design of memories and feelings.
WOVEN JULIANE - BUSY HANDS AND SOME TIME TO REST (black/red)
Juliane's hands in various poses form the central motif with one of her favorite places, a bench in the countryside. The bench represents the calm balance to the hands in motion. Juliane's design is a mixture of movement, her own profession as a health and nursing professional and, as it were, the time she gives herself to come to rest. It shows the connections to the music-making past and the associated love of one's own hands, but also the present and the balance between caring and caring for oneself.
WOVEN MAGGY - LOOKING OUT OF THE WINDOW (blue/white)
The design for Maggy was based on cyanotype prints for the overall visual image. In her design, Maggy's mother-in-law's milk jug stands for the memory of a loved one and also for objects that have become dear to us, regardless of their specific function or condition. The stylized window and the floral elements, which were copied from photographs of Maggy, symbolize the view into the garden and the love and encounters that flow into the garden and take place there. The shadowy contours are reminiscent of the feeling of having looked at the sun for too long.
WOVEN THERESA - TINY LITTLE BOXES (purple/brown)
Theresa's design reflects places in her life that have a special connection for her through the memories she associates with them. In the center is a schematic drawing of the town of Nataf in the Jerusalem mountains in Israel, where she spent a lot of time because her ex-boyfriend's family lives there. The forget-me-nots stand for the place of her childhood, as she associates it with her parents' garden. In her design, the memories of the past and present of beloved places and what she experienced there are combined on different levels.
